Tzu Chi is sponsoring a charitable performing art presentation ‘Thousands of Helping Hands’ at Hunter College Assembly Hall in New York City on 6/12/2010. The event features the renowned ‘Chinese Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe’ and is joined by Tzu-Chi members in New York area with Sign Language performance. The invitation is attached and all are encouraged to attend the great event in New York together. 證嚴上人的叮嚀與靜思語 Master Cheng Yen’s Teaching and Jing-Si Aphorisms:
• 為了淨化人心，必須啟發人人的愛心；使人善念生起，惡念消除。
In order to purify human mind, we have to inspire compassion from everyone; compassion can raise kind thoughts and repel evil desires from people.
• 生命在呼吸間，且心念變化不定，要把握心中愛的種子，使其成長。
Our thoughts can fluctuate quickly even in one breath. The key to gain enlightenment is to nurture the kind thoughts whenever they arise.
• 事情該自己去承擔，就盡心付出不執著；不該接受的，就不要與人爭搶。
We should devote our full energy to fulfill our responsibility but do not take other’s as your own.
• 發心容易，恆心難持，就因為難，所以才叫修行。
It is easy for us to gain inspiration but hard to cultivate patience. Therefore, it requires constant practice.
• 修行主要就在改掉自己的習氣；從別人身上可以看見，改掉習氣是多困難的事。
Practicing Buddha’s teaching is to rid of our bad habits. It is a very hard task as we may have learned from the people around us.
• 太過聰明就會常計較，就有得失的心態，也因此凡事無法忍耐。
We often confuse cunning from wisdom; cunning only induces our desires, create conflicts, and renders all things intolerable.
• 只要心正、站得穩，就會很自在。
As long as we purify our mind and behave nobly, we will always feel confident and comfortable.

慈濟和學校將於五月十六日在學校舉行簡單儀式慶祝母親節、浴佛節和全球慈濟日，同學們將會向父母親獻花奉茶以示感恩，歡迎大家一同參與。同學們請儘量穿著制服，也請大家時時刻刻記得母親對我們的愛與叮嚀喔。
We wish all the Mothers and Buddhists a happy holiday. Tzu Chi and school will hold a brief ceremony to commend Mother’s day, Budda’s birthday, as well as global Tzu-Chi Day on 5/16. Our students will deliver flowers and tea to their parents to show their appreciation in this once-a-year event. We also encourage all students and teachers to wear their uniforms. Always remember the selfless love and dedication our mommy bestows to us.

Tzu Chi Boston Chapter will host a lecture on Saturday 5/22 1:00-3:00 PM at its Newton office. The subject is “Parent’s responsibility on children’s education”. The speaker, Chia-Chi Li graduated from National Taiwan Normal University and has significant education experience and many publications. Mr Li will discuss early childhood experience and interactions with children of all ages. He will also explore ways to build a more harmonious and constructive relationship between parent and children. We sincerely encourage parents as well as their family and friends to participate the event.
• 惜福站: 冬去夏至, 本週歡迎各位家長將小孩已穿不下的冬季用的雪衣, 雪褲, 雪靴捐至惜福站義賣. 也歡迎有需要的家長至惜福站選購, 大家一起發揮惜福愛物的精神.
Any outgrown children’s winter clothes or equipments are welcome donation to the school SiFu station. Parents are also encouraged to purchase items from the station and excise their conservation spirit. All proceeds will be used to fund school needs.

Only if we relieve ourselves from the restriction of our body and desires, we can achieve comfort and enlightenment.
• 不用害怕力量小，就怕不肯發心做。只要有心，沒有什麼事做不成！
Be not afraid of powerless because you are just a single individual. Keep in mind; anything is possible as long as you have strong determination.
• 要成就團體的「和」，人人要自我認知「少不了一個我」——每一個人都要主動跟大家「和」；人人彼此相和，團體才會美。
To accomplish peace and harmony within a group, each individual has to swallow own ego and makes contribution selflessly. If everyone is willing to do so, the whole group could then achieve harmony and joy.
• 期望社會祥和、天下無災難，要從淨化人心開始。你自我淨化、我自我淨化、他也自我淨化，人人自我淨化且發自真心，投入善的行動、展現美的生態，社會 就能真善美。請大家時時用心！
To keep the society peaceful and reduce manmade catastrophes, we have to start from our own mind. Each individual commits himself/herself entirely to making the good deeds.
• 自愛愛人，就是幸福的人生。
Love others like you love yourself, you will gain eternal happiness.
• 人生最美的，就是相互感恩真善美的境界，都在一念感恩中。
The moment we feel grateful is most wonderful and enlightening time of our life. All it takes is our commitment to appreciation of others.
• 其實人的本性原是清淨、良善的，只因後天的染上各種習氣，若無法改掉不好的習氣，就常會造成身心的痛苦；如果能時常保持清淨心，則不論遇到何種境遇，都會守人生的本分。
Human nature is originally innocent and kind. It gradually acquires all kinds of bad habits that often lead to physical and spiritual suffering. If we keep our mind fresh, we can always maintain our posture regardless the circumstances.
• 有感恩心的人，就是知足、善良的人；為人若無感恩心，就會視別人的給予是理所當然，而不知珍惜。
A person who always feels thankful and cherish will be content and kind. Those who do not will take everything for granted and regret their losses.

The folk art group of the Senior Jaycees Club, sponsored by The Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission (OCAC) of the Republic of China, will be visiting the Boston area on 5/9 to celebrate Taiwanese American Heritage Week. There will be eight artists giving demonstrations and workshops for Chinese and Taiwanese traditional arts and crafts. Please see the attached introduction for details.

• 再荒蕪的土地，只要有人肯撒種、耕耘，很快就會綠油油地，充滿豐收的生機。
As long as one is willing to do the hard work, even the most barren land can be transformed into fertile ground that produces plenty harvest.
• 如果每個人都有「惜福」觀念，懂得疼惜生命，甚至連一切的物質也能愛惜，社會上就不會有過多的「消費」與「垃圾」問題了
If everyone learns to be prudent and cherishes every life and resources, the crisis of overconsumption, waste accumulation, acute pollution, etc. will all be alleviated.
• 若肯用心於日常生活中，則語默動靜無一不是教化。
If you really pay attention and effort in daily life, you will find enlightenments in all the things happened around you.
• 若能用心，道理就在眼前；若不用心，真理就與我們無關。
If you observe your surrounding carefully, you will realize the truths actually everywhere. Otherwise, you will just be blinded by your own ignorance.
• 若心思太複雜，凡事顧慮多、煩惱多，本能就無由發揮。
Making everything overly complicated and worrying about the trivial details will render anyone paralyzed and apprehensive.
• 做人圓融，事情才能圓滿，人事圓滿，就表示自己真懂道理。
Success can only be achieved only if you know how to manage every members of your team. After you understand the virtue of keeping both people and things in harmony, you have indeed reached enlightenment.

May 16 is a regular school day. No extracurricular and Jing-Si Aphorisms lessons will be held after class instead. There will also be Mother’s day and Bath Buddha Ceremony.

May 30th is Memorial Day and will be no school.
教師與學生園地 Teacher & Student Activities:
• 結業典禮將於六月二十日舉行，會場需要志工協助，希望學生和家長儘快踴躍報名。
We are asking for volunteers for end of school year ceremony (6/20) from students and parents. Interested parties please contact Jeff or school staff ASAP.
o 兩名大愛小記者 (7 – 12 歲)。 他/她們將像電視上的新聞主播一樣報導簡短新聞。我們會給學生開設專門的訓練班。
Two young student volunteers (7 – 12 yrs old) are wanted. They will play TV news anchors and report several brief news pieces during the ceremony. We will provide a training workshop for student volunteers.
o 兩名節目主持人 (12 歲以上)。 他/她們將在臺上簡單介紹所有的節目。我們會給學生開設專門的訓練班。
Two program hosts/hostesses (greater than 12 years old) are also wanted. They will introduce all performance and control program flow. A training workshop will also be offered for students volunteers.
o 人文學校年鑑光盤封面設計一名 （成年人）。
One adult volunteer is needed to design CD cover of our 2010 yearbook CD. You have chance to show off your skill and creativity on our yearbook CD cover.
家長園地 Parents Activities:
• 本周日五月二日“生活教室”將於10:00am-11:00am在學校餐廳舉行。
There will be Life Classroom this Sunday (5/2) from 10 – 11am at school cafeteria.
• 學校將於五月十六日開放給校外人士參觀，歡迎家長邀請親朋好友來訪。詳情請參考附件。
The school open house will take place on 5/16 from 10:30 to 12:30AM. We encourage parents to invite relatives, friends, and acquaintance come to visit our school. Details please see attached.

The folk art group of the Senior Jaycees Club, sponsored by The Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission (OCAC) of the Republic of China, will be visiting the Boston area on 5/9 to celebrate Taiwanese American Heritage Week. There will be eight artists giving demonstrations and workshops for Chinese and Taiwanese traditional arts and crafts. Please see the attached introduction for details.

• 再荒蕪的土地，只要有人肯撒種、耕耘，很快就會綠油油地，充滿豐收的生機。
As long as one is willing to do the hard work, even the most barren land can be transformed into fertile ground that produces plenty harvest.
• 如果每個人都有「惜福」觀念，懂得疼惜生命，甚至連一切的物質也能愛惜，社會上就不會有過多的「消費」與「垃圾」問題了
If everyone learns to be prudent and cherishes every life and resources, the crisis of overconsumption, waste accumulation, acute pollution, etc. will all be alleviated.
• 若肯用心於日常生活中，則語默動靜無一不是教化。
If you really pay attention and effort in daily life, you will find enlightenments in all the things happened around you.
• 若能用心，道理就在眼前；若不用心，真理就與我們無關。
If you observe your surrounding carefully, you will realize the truths actually everywhere. Otherwise, you will just be blinded by your own ignorance.
• 若心思太複雜，凡事顧慮多、煩惱多，本能就無由發揮。
Making everything overly complicated and worrying about the trivial details will render anyone paralyzed and apprehensive.
• 做人圓融，事情才能圓滿，人事圓滿，就表示自己真懂道理。
Success can only be achieved only if you know how to manage every members of your team. After you understand the virtue of keeping both people and things in harmony, you have indeed reached enlightenment.
