校園花絮 – 十二月份行事曆December Highlights:
• 12/20–正常上課日。靜思語教學。課外活動暫停。
December 20th is a regular school day. Jing-Si Aphorisms lesson will be held after class that day.
• 12/27–耶誕節停課。
There will be no class on December 27th. Happy Holidays!!!
• 本周JGMS 餐廳關閉，家長請使用功夫課教室休息。
The JGM Cafeteria will be closed this week. Parents can stay in the Kung-Fu room.
• 如果氣象預報有暴風雪來襲，路況不適或積雪超過六英吋，學校將會於周日早上七時半前以電話和電子郵件 通知。請家長在早上8:30或出門前注意學校送出之郵電通知，如仍有疑問，請與各班老師電話聯繫，或電617-492-8499/ 781-559-3190詢問。
If a snowstorm is forecasted to affect the region on a regular school day, the school will monitor the weather condition closely. If the expected snowfall exceeds six inches over the Bedford area or the condition is deemed unsafe for travel, the school will announce its cancellation both by phone and by email before 7:30am on Sunday. Please check your email or voice mail by 8:30 AM. If you are still unsure, please call either your teacher, or 617-492-8499, or 781-559-3190. Be safe.
學校會在12/20 第三堂課舉辦全校靜思語教學，此次教學主題將針對送文具到海地活動作教學， 也請家長鼓勵同學將家裡多餘之文具（用過或全新的）當天捐贈出來，學校收集後統一寄出。如果12/20因暴風雪停課，請將捐贈之文具改於1/3送到學校，感恩您!
School will hold Jing-Si Aphorisms lesson on 12/20. The focus of the lesson will be our School Supplies Drive for Kids in Haiti. Please encourage your children to donate their excess school supplies (new or used) during the lesson. School will collect and send all donations to Haiti. In case 12/20 is cancelled due to snowstorm, please bring your donations to school on 1/3/10 instead. Thank you.

• 不論人間事多麼複雜，只要心寬闊，就能包容天地、包容人間事。
No matter how complex relationships are, people can accommodate others and navigate obstacles safely and smoothly as long as he/she keeps a fair and open mind.
• 人間好事不是一個人能成就的，需要無數人一起來成就，所以要抱持單純心念，你來幫我、我來幫你，你牽著我、我牽著你；大家手牽著手，相互接力，共同成就天下好事。
Good deeds can only be achieved through the collaboration of many individuals. As long as everyone is willing to work together, there will be no limit to what we can achieve.

愛心家長園地 Parent Volunteer News:
• 惜福站 XiFu Station
惠敏師姐捐出的二手衣物及用品，經過兩週在惜福站展示由大家自由認購，義賣所得款項約三百七十七元， 已悉數捐入學校現金帳，做為學校設備及教材添購基金。 ﹝待有明確採購物品或教材品項時會再將明細貼出﹞
Clothes and other items donated by Sister Hui-Ming have been on sale at the XiFu Station for the last two weeks. A total of $377 was raised so far and the amount has been donated to our school cash reserve fund. The funds will be used to purchase necessary school equipment and textbooks. (Expense details will be disclosed whenever the funds are spent for school supplies.)
感恩大家熱烈選購惜福站義賣貨品， 既發揮惜物愛物心情，又為學校募得基金。 下週開始， 請家長們也可分批加入惜福站捐物義賣﹝下週從五六年級家長開始﹞， 只要是堪用物資， 不分新舊， 都歡迎捐贈予學校義賣。 所有義賣所得一樣捐入學校現金帳，用之於學校設備或教材購買。
We appreciate all participants in the XiFu station fundraising activity. This activity did not only show our commitment in conservation, but also raised funds for our school. Starting from next week (12/20), all parents are welcome to participate in our XiFu Station. (Next week, donations will be collected from Grade 5 and Grade 6.) We will accept your donation as long as the items are in working condition, regardless new or used. All proceeds will support our school.

生活教室活動因下週場地限制，順延一週。
Because the JGMS cafeteria is closed on 12/20, Parent Life Classroom will be postponed for the next school day.

In preparation for the Chinese New Year Celebration (2/7/2010!), we are looking for parent volunteers to help operate the game booths and supply food and drinks. • 為了預防大地沒有水，五穀雜糧無法生長、人類也無法生存。人心也要有淨水，才能調和天
地、免除災難。
Prolonged droughts can cause famine and other disasters which threaten the very existence of humankind. To prevent such disasters from happening, everyone must appreciate the precious resources on our earth.
• 「水是人類之寶。缺乏乾淨用水，將引起疫病；農作因缺水歉收，將導致饑饉。人人
務必用感恩心珍惜水資源。」
Water is a treasure to humanity. Without water, disease and famine would occur. Therefore, we must try to save water as much as we can.

We hope everyone enjoyed a happy and fruitful thanksgiving. The winter season is upon us, and the weather is growing colder. With the seasonal and H1N1 flu going around, we would like to remind everyone to be vigilant about their health. The school is providing hand sanitizers in the library and cafeteria for your convenience. We thank and wish everyone the best!

• 為響應全美慈濟人文學校籌劃 "送愛到海地助學計劃”。我們將開始舉辦"送文具到海地"活動。此次主要捐贈物資為文具用品，對象為海地兩所小學(貝松市瓜地馬拉小學、太陽城小學)及兩所孤兒院，約三千五百多位學生。美國慈濟總會將負責採購黑板、白板、課桌椅。為發揮校園點滴善的力量，希望讓學生也能一起響應。我們將鼓勵學生能夠捐贈自己用過，但仍可用或全新文具：如鉛筆(不要自動鉛筆)、橡皮擦、彩色筆、蠟筆、鉛筆盒、書包及筆記本給海地的孩子。懇請家長合作配合學校所發起此一活動：請與孩子分享泥餅影片

Tzu-Chi US is sponsoring a school supplies drive for the kids in Haiti. The school supplies that are collected will be donated to roughly 3,500 kids in two elementary schools and two orphanages in Haiti. Our school will also hold an event in December to encourage students to donate school supplies such as pencils (only non-mechanical pencils), erasers, markers, crayons, pencil boxes, notebooks, backpacks, etc. Tzu-Chi US will also donate blackboards, whiteboards, tables, and chairs to the schools in Haiti. We encourage parents and students to watch a brief documentary about life in Haiti (linked above). Your generosity will give the kids in Haiti a happier holiday.
學校會在12/20全體學生靜思語教學時以此為題分享海地泥餅故事，學生如有文具捐贈，請在12/20全體學生靜思語教學時拿到課堂一起投箱捐贈。感恩您!

With the help of many parents, the Tzu-Chi loving parent team has been officially established. The team encourages and welcomes the involvement of all parents. • 適逢流感季節，請家長們平常教導小孩養成預防感染小小習慣：
勤洗手：教小朋友們如何洗手。洗手必需記住三個S，第一：要洗20秒﹝Second﹞第二：用肥皂﹝Soap﹞，第三：洗淨所有表面﹝Surfaces﹞：手掌、手背和指間。
保持良好的咳嗽、打噴嚏的習慣: 咳嗽和打噴嚏時用紙巾遮住口鼻，並將用過 的紙巾丟入垃圾桶內，然後洗手。或者在沒有紙巾時，咳嗽和打噴嚏就用上手臂遮住口鼻。
如有發燒情形，請向老師請假，在家休息。
It’s the flu season. Please have your children to develop the good habit to prevent infection:
Wash hands: There are three S,:

When coughing and sneezing, you should cover the mouse and nose with tissue paper. Dispose used tissue paper properly and wash hands after. Without tissue paper available when cough and sneeze, you are advised to use the arm to cover nose and mouth instead the palms/ hands.
In the case of fever, please contact the teacher and the doctor. Stay home for a good rest.

1. Trick-o-Treat: 請著萬聖節服裝、自備裝糖果的籃子。當天上午十一時，由各班級room parent帶領學生巡迴各班教室進行Trick-o-Treat。
Trick-o-Treat: All are encouraged to wear costumes and bring baskets for Trick-O-Treat. At 11 am, the room parents will line up students, and lead them to classrooms for trick-o-treating.
2. 鐘魁攝影棚: 在上午十一時，以班級為主到鐘魁攝影棚 (雙語班旁走廊轉腳處) ，對著鐘魁的照妖鏡頭說:『Trick-o-Treat』，針對同學的萬聖節服裝，屆時將評選出最佳創意獎、最可愛獎、終極恐怖獎各二名。
Phantom Photo Booth: Students should come to the Phantom Photo Booth in group at 1 1am and say “Trick-o-Treat” to the camera. The booth will be set up in the corridor near bilingual class. The adult recorder and percussion class will meet this week at 10 am at open space near courtyard. The class will decide whether to open or not for the minimum head count of 6. If you are interested, please show up.

There will be a Jin-Si-Yu cartoon sketch competition. In order to encourage students’ participation, every age group will have 5 Excellent Awards in addition to the top 3 winners. Please see the attachment.

暑期已逐漸接近尾聲，您和小朋友們是否也正翹首期盼著回到慈濟人文學校，與師長及小朋友們同享學習的歡愉呢？
慈濟人文學校訂於2008年9月13日(星期日) 9:30am開學。謹此以感恩的心，誠摯地提醒您：
• 已經完成註冊手續者，請於開學當天，直接進入指定教室上語文課。

Good time is always felt short. Hope you all have a great summer. School starts on September 13th 2009. It is just a few more weeks away. We are going to have another wonderful year.
The class starts at 9:30 AM on September 13, 2009. Students who have completed registration should go directly to their classes and who have not yet registered are advised to complete the attached registration form and send to Tzu-Chi Academy, 15 Summer Street, Newton, MA 02464. Tuition needs to be paid in full at the registrar by the first day of school.
The schedule on the first day of class is as follows:
• First period: 9:30 am – 10:20 am
• Second period: 10:30 am – 11:20 am
• Parents-school conference 10:00Am-11:20Am (held at cafeteria)
• Opening ceremony: 11:30 am – 12:20 pm (held at cafeteria)
(Swap classes will only be accepted by Sept. 30th, 2009. To swap classes, please contact Mr. Jeff Lin, the counselors of the extracurricular department.)
We would like to thank all of you for the support in the past and hoping to have your continuous support in the year to come. Without you and your kid(s), the class is only full of desk and chair. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Classes meet once a week from 9:30am to 12:30pm every Sunday morning from September to June. Language classes meet from 9:30am to 11:20am, with one ten-minute break. The extracurricular activities are held from 11:30am to 12:20pm.

History
The Tzu Chi Academy, Massachusetts was founded in 1998 by Tzu Chi Foundation Boston Office. Dharma Master Cheng Yen in Taiwan founded Tzu Chi in 1966. With its four major missions of Charity, Medicine, Education, and Culture, the foundation has built hospitals, schools, and helped millions of people in times of need in over 19 countries. To fulfill its mission of Education, the Tzu Chi Boston established the Tzu Chi Academy to teach Chinese language, promote Chinese culture and nurture the students' good characters. After establishing its first school in Malden in 1998, the Academy opened a second school in Concord in 2001. In 2003, the two schools were merged and the school is currently located at Bedford High School.
Teaching Philosophies
The Academy teaching principles emphasize mercy, compassion, joy, giving, honesty and integrity. The curriculum combines the language education with the learning of life ethics. Through the teaching of Still Thoughts*, we strive to instill civility and morality in students as well as pass on to them a selfless, kind, just and active perspectives on life. The students also learn respect for parents, self-content, thankfulness and understanding from these teachings. *Still Thoughts are excerpts of the inspirational teachings by Master Cheng Yen.
Vision
Our vision is to integrate the teaching of life ethics with eastern and western cultures. Through the teaching of Still Thoughts, we not only give the children the ability to use Chinese in their daily lives, but also foster the kindness in them and prepare them to face the challenges in a multi-faceted society. We plan to introduce students to community services, nurture their sense of humanity, love and appreciation and prepare them to become useful members of society.
