Happy New Year! Tzu Chi Boston Chapter plans to hold a Chinese New Year Celebration at the John Glenn Middle School in Bedford, MA. A “New Year: A Fresh Mind & New Life” exhibition will show you how to incorporate environmental consciousness into your daily life. Tea and light refreshment will be served after the program. All parents, teachers, students and their friends are invited to join us for the celebration. There are 25 translation machines available for non-Chinese speaking guests. Whoever needs the machine, please RSVP by contacting Jennifer Ying at 603-643-6407.

There will be Speech and Story-telling competitions today from 10:20-11:30 AM. Jing-Si Aphorisms lessons will take place after the competition.

February 28th will be a regular school day. Extracurricular activities will take place after class. The Drawing/Poster competition has been postponed to 3/7.
家長園地 Parents Activities:
• 慈濟學校將成立成人中文閱讀班。 由前任中文成人注音班袁老師擔任，免費教學，機會難得，請對中文有興趣的朋友踴躍報名。
Tzu Chi Academy will offer Chinese Reading Class for Adults. The instructor, Teacher Yuan, taught an Adult Phonetic Class previously. Whoever is interested in Chinese language is encouraged to participate in the Chinese Reading Class. It’s a rare opportunity and it’s also free. Reserve your spot now!

演講說故事比賽的評分標準是：發音30% 語調30% 內容25% 儀態15%。請家長協助孩子準備說故事及演講
內容，如需協助請聯絡老師或校方人員。
The student Speech/Story-telling competition will take place on February 21, 2010 in three categories.
Kindergartner and Bilingual Junior class: Reading (Children’s folk songs) Competition
1st Grade and 2nd Grade: Story Telling Competition
3rd Grade and above: Speech Competition
The contestants will be judged according to the following criteria: pronunciation 30%, tones 30%, content 25%, and appearance 15%. Parents are encouraged to help students prepare the contents of their speech or story. Should you need assistance, please feel free to contact teachers or school staff.
• 繪畫壁報比賽延至三月七日，比賽主題將於近日透過電子郵件公佈。優勝同學將可代表學校參加五月底美東區中文學校壁報競賽。
The poster/drawing competition has been postponed to 3/7. The topic will be published soon through email notification. The winners can attend the American-East regional Chinese schools poster competition at the end of May.
證嚴上人的叮嚀與靜思語 Master Cheng Yen’s Teaching and Jing-Si Aphorisms:
• 做世間事，十有八九不能稱心如意，所以一定要以很開闊的心去善解、包容他人，去除人我的對立，才不會被煩惱糾纏。
While hardly everything will meet our expectation in life, do not let those negative experience trouble you. Try accommodating others’ opinions and resolving conflicts with an open mind may prove a lot easier for you to achieve your goal.
• 付出一分愛心，就能獲得一分福業；捨掉一分執著，就能增長一分智慧！
Fortune increases with more devotion while wisdom grows with less obstinacy.
• 人不怕犯錯，只怕不改過；誠實的懺悔，才能恢復心地的清淨。
People should not be afraid of making mistakes. As long as we acknowledge their shortcomings honestly, we shall soon regain our peace.
• 一天到晚老想著──誰對不起我，就會很痛苦。若轉個念頭想──我要感恩誰，就會很快樂。
Do not be bothered by those who might have done injustice to you in the past. Instead, you will be a lot happier if you keep those who helped you before in mind.
• 世間每個人的境遇與責任都不相同，如果不懂得知足、惜福，老是羨慕別人比自己有錢、比自己出名，則永遠比不完，日子會過得非常痛苦。
Everyone encounters unique circumstance and experience during their lifetime. To envy others for their accomplishment, fame, or wealth only adds more misery instead of fulfillment into your life.
• 所謂「行行出狀元」，人人各有自己的優點與專長，只要安守本分、真誠付出，就是心安理得、充實快樂的人生。
Excellency can be achieved no matter what profession you have chosen. Life would be fulfilled as long as ones could recognize their own strength and weakness, work hard, and act honestly.
• 人生苦在『執著』，有執著就有痛苦；能不執著，則一切皆樂。
All our misery is caused by our obstinacy and intransigence. We could regain our happiness by giving up our stubbornness.
愛心家長園地 Parent Volunteer News:
• 惜福站 XiFu Station
o 成人太極班家長學員因事不克繼續課程，已購買之課程欲出讓。 自二月開始至六月結業, 上課時間每週日早上10點至11點，仍餘15堂課程, 希以30元金額出讓。轉讓金額也將悉數捐予惜福站. 請有意家長直接洽惜福站詢問相關訊息。
One member in the Adult Tai Chi Class cannot continue with the lessons and would like to offer the remaining class credits for sale. The remaining 15 classes lasts from the beginning of February to the end of school year in June, from 10am to 11am every Sunday morning. The member would like to ask for $30 for the credit transfer. The money received from the transaction will be donated to the XiFu Station. Interested parties please contact XiFu Station personnel directly for details.
