An earthquake that measured 7.0 in Richter scale struck Haiti on January 12. The earthquake has resulted in catastrophic property damages and unimaginable human casualties in city of Port-au-Prince, capital of Haiti. These earthquake victims urgently need our help. On January 24, Tzu Chi Academy will setup a donation stand in school cafeteria. Anyone who makes donation needs a temporary receipt could contact the Parent Volunteer Station. The sisters there will be glad to help you. Together, we can help people of Haiti!

• 2/7 – 春節聯歡。請老師同學與志工們當天請穿著制服，學校計畫拍攝一段春節拜年短片，非常感謝您的配合。
Teachers, students, and volunteers please wear uniform to the Chinese New Year Celebration on February 7th. School plans to make a brief video clip of New Year Prayer for publication. Thank you for your cooperation.
• 感謝家長們對送愛到海地文具捐贈計畫的支持。慈濟波士頓聯絡處與人文學校，總共收集有四箱文具（書包、鉛筆盒、橡皮擦、鉛筆、筆記本、彩色筆和黏著筆等），已全部送到慈濟紐澤西分會，然後由紐澤西統一起送至海地。
Thanks for everyone’s support for “School Supplies Drive for Kids in Haiti”. Tzu Chi Boston office and academy have collected four boxes of school supplies (backpacks, pencil boxes, erasers, pencils, notebooks, markers and crayons). They have arrived at Tzu Chi New Jersey chapter and will be shipped to Haiti after the situation in Haiti returns to normal.
學生園地 Student Activities:
• 本學年的校內學生演講說故事比賽預定在二零一零年二月二十一日舉行，優勝同學將可代表學校參加新英格蘭(四月初)與美東區(五月底)的競賽喔。演講說故事比賽的評分標準是：發音30% 語調30% 內容25% 儀態15%。
The student speech/story-telling competition will be held in January 2010. The winners will represent our school at the New England and American East Chinese School Association competitions that are held in April and May respectively. The contestants will be judged according to the followings: pronunciation 30%, tunes 30%, content 25%, and appearance 15%.

• 新年新希望，人人對未來都有願望；但願大家為自己祈願的同時，莫忘普天下苦難蒼生。
Most of us wish for advancement in the New Year. However, we should not forget those troubled, disadvantaged, and disabled.
• 不在是非對錯裡起煩惱，就是將人事當教育；若因此而起煩惱，就是將人事當是非。
Do not let those ludicrous arguments trouble your mind. Use them as lessons instead of obstacles in your life.
• 懂得愛物才會愛人，要先清除心的污染，做好心靈環保，才能做好大地的環保。
Only those who care about the environment know the true meaning of love. Rejecting materialism is the prerequisite for conservation of the environment.
• 不管做什麼事都要用心，但不要操心。
Whenever face the challenges, we should focus but not worry.
• 世間何種力量最大？愛的力量最大。唯有這份愛，才能消弭仇恨、撫平鬥爭。
Love is more powerful than anything else in the world. Only love can extinguish the hatred and overcome the enmity.
慈濟天下事 Tzu Chi News
• 數十名慈濟志工不畏寒冷，上周末在波士頓中國城及各地超市為海地的災民勸募。感恩無數善心大德慷慨解囊，總共募得近兩萬美金善款。
Last weekend Tzu Chi volunteers braved the cold and stationed at Chinatown and several local supermarkets to solicit donation for the ongoing humanitarian effort in Haiti. Thanks for many generous donors and the volunteers, almost twenty thousand dollars were collected.

Tzu Chi Boston chapter plans to hold a Chinese New Year Celebration at John Glenn Middle School at Bedford, MA (please see attachment for detail). A “New Year: A New Mind & New Life” exhibition will show you how to incorporate environmental consciousness into our daily life. Tea and light refreshment will be served after the program. All parents, teachers, students and their friends are invited to join us for the celebration.
