親愛的家長、老師與同學們:

農曆九月九日(西曆十月五日)是中華文化的重陽節, 由於九月初九「九九」諧音是「久久」,有長久之意,華人傳統常在此日祭祖與推行敬老活動。民間傳統在該日也有登高的風俗,所以重陽節又稱「登高節」。重陽節與除夕、清明、中元三節是中國傳統節日裏祭祖的四大節慶。
唐朝詩人王維一首七言絕句說的很貼切:獨在異鄉為異客,每逢佳節倍思親。遙知兄弟登高處,遍插茱萸少一人。希望大家記得多給長輩親友們一點關心喔! 正巧慈濟基金會波士頓聯絡處將於十月八日上午十時至十二時在Waltham老人院 (4F, 174 Moody street, Waltham 02453) 舉辦「重陽敬老,心素食儀」活動,提供老人家「如何吃素,長保健康」的醫療常識。除了播放影片之外,也準備了可口的素食餐點,歡迎家長老師與同學們共襄盛舉。詳情請與淑蓉師姐(JYING332003@yahoo.com)或毓雅師兄洽詢(tatabox2@gmail.com)。

活動介紹:

• 慈濟基金會波士頓聯絡處將於十月八日上午十時至十二時探訪Waltham老人院 (4F, 174 Moody street, Waltham 02453)。因適逢九九重陽佳節,慈濟特別舉辦「重陽敬老,心素食儀」活動,提供老人家「如何吃素,長保健康」的醫療常識。除了播放影片之外,也準備可口的素食餐點,歡迎家長老師與同學們共襄盛舉。詳情請與淑蓉師姐或毓雅師兄洽詢 (tatabox2@gmail.com)。

• 本月人文講座將於十月十六日舉行,主題是”蔬果秘碼 - 解開蔬食的迷思”,講座將由一群有中西醫學養和素食經驗的朋友們與大家一起討論分享 (詳情請參考附件)。蔬果不但能養顏美容,還能抗老化,此外它們也具有各種不同的療效。專家們也針對幼兒期、兒童期、青春期、成年期、銀髮期等不同人生階段,搭配不同的飲食素食材料,提供不同的料理方法,以滿足各年齡層的成長及需要,讓您健康又美麗。

• 慈濟基金會波士頓聯絡處邀請您於十月二十二日星期六再度參與牛頓市Hemlock峽谷之友會所舉辦的Hemlock峽谷保留區年度秋季大清掃 (離會所大約0.2英里)。感恩主辦單位會準備工具和簡便午餐。有興趣的家長、老師與同學們請於早上九時三十分在慈濟會所集合,然後走路到Hamilton Place。有志工服者,請務必穿志工服;沒有志工服者,請注意天候穿著適合的‘工作服’到會所套上志工背心後再出發,人文學校學生請穿學校制服參加。意者請洽君明師兄617-494-7419 (O) or 781-559-3190 (H) or cmc5418@gmail.com

Dear Parents, Teachers, and Students:

October 5th (9/9 on Chinese Lunar Calendar) is a special day in Chinese tradition. In this day, Chinese will express their respect and affection to their elders. According to a legend, they will also climb a height with relatives for safety away from devil and disease.

Up and Coming Events:

• Tzu Chi will visit a nursing home (4F, 174 Moody street) in Waltham MA on October 8th Saturday morning 10AM to 12PM in observance of a Chinese tradition to pay respect to their elders on 9/9 of Chinese Lunar Calendar (October 5th). Whoever interested in joining the visit or helping please contact Sister Jennifer or Brother Jeff Lin (tatabox2@gmail.com).

• The first lecture in the TCA humanity lecture series for adults has been rescheduled to 10/16. The topic is the “pass codes for a healthy vegetarian diet”. Several medical professionals (Chinese and Western) and vegetarian practitioners will discuss the merits of vegetarian diet and share their experience (please refer to the attached file).

• As a commitment to our community and environment, Tzu Chi Boston Service Center, Tzu Ching+, and Tzu Shao will participate again in the Annual Fall Cleanup of Hemlock Gorge Reservation sponsored by Friends of Hemlock Gorge's in City of Newton/Needham (approximately 0.2 mile from service center) on Saturday 10/22 10AM-12PM. Hemlock Gorge Reservation is a beautiful community park situated along the Charles River bank. Materials and tools will be supplied for all volunteers. Refreshments are also provided after the clean up. Please dress appropriately for the work and the weather (rain or shine). Interested volunteers please report to Service Center by 9:30 AM.

Campus–September/October Highlights:

• 10/9 - No school today in observance of Columbus Day
• 10/16 - October 16th is a regular school day and extracurricular activities take place after class. A discussion panel about nutrition and health will be held for parents and volunteers at Cafeteria.
• 10/23 - October 23rd is a regular school day and extracurricular activities take place after class.
• 10/30 - October 30th is a regular school day but no extracurricular activities today. A Halloween celebration and parent children activities will take place instead.
